“Before you judge a man, walk a mile in his shoes.”
~Unknown
For a long time, I lived in my own little bubble. I thought I knew all I needed to know about the world. But the more people and connections I make, the more I’ve realized how blind I’ve been. The world truly is not black and white. There’s a lot of grey.
How do I learn about the world outside of my small town? Reach out. Be a listening ear to those around me. Try to see the world through their eyes.
How will this world become a better place if we’re not willing to learn from one another? Are we always going to agree? No. But that can be a beautiful thing. How would this world be if we were all the same?
God made us all different and there’s a purpose for that. It’s very humbling to be open to other people’s stories. Even if we don’t see eye to eye, God uses these situations to teach us compassion and it’s an opportunity to show His kind of love. Love willing to see someone for who they are and not judge them, rather be seen as a child of God.
We can be the difference. I’ve been surprised at how a lot of people are willing to have a conversation and are open to me in return. That’s how we learn and grow. Openness and conversation.
People not willing to listen or talk? Kindness is the answer. Over time, that Christ-like behavior may bring down those walls built with past wounds. Especially, as a Christian, I want to show them what Jesus is all about. That’s done with an open heart and showing them that they are seen. More than their physical appearance, past, job position, popularity…them being seen for their heart and the fact that they are perfectly loved by Jesus.
“Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: ‘You shall love you neighbor as yourself.’ On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.””
~Matthew 22:37-40
